If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that people in my family contracted COVID-19. My sister and brother-in-law were among them.

After no reduction in her fever for a couple of days, my sister accepted my offer to make her the fever busting recipe you will read about below.

When I spoke with her this morning, her fever was gone!

My brother-in-law shared that his cough is much better. My sister said her cough is still a problem, so I’m going to help them adjust the remedies if she doesn’t improve more by tomorrow.

Natural remedies to treat Covid-19 symptoms help the body heal

Natural remedies versus medication

You already know how amazing it is when someone you’re worried about feels better.

Still, in the past, you might not have had the tools to help someone heal. In the past, you might have turned to medications to treat symptoms.

According to Chinese medicine, chemicals are used as a last resort because non-herbal medications act as toxins in your body.

In addition to processing the germs from the virus, your body has to attack, eliminate, and deal with the additional toxins from the medicine.

Natural remedies, such a breathing, meditation, food, and music, help your BODY do the work necessary to heal. They do not take over the body’s functions.

For example, the fever busting recipe shared below, supports your body’s innate ability to release heat to reduce a fever. It does not trick the body into thinking that the fever is not necessary.

You have the power to heal programmed into your body!

Use the remedies below to unlock that power to heal.

The following remedies work because they boost our natural body systems that fight disease. Each remedy targets specific organs and strengthens their ability to do what they are designed to do.

They will also KEEP YOU HEALTHY if you are not sick. What a great thing!

Remedy #1: Deep Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercises

People in China take it for granted that everyone knows how to do breathing exercises. Exercises, such as those shown in the scene above from the movie “The Farewell” are common practice.

The type of breathing pictured in the movie forces air through the lungs, cleansing and strengthening them. It is a very active form of breathing, with movement connected to the breath.

Another form of breath is more relaxed and easier for most people to do – diaphragmatic breathing.

The fact is, YOU can easily do this type of deep breathing!

Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise

  • Sit or lie down. Relax and stay calm.
  • Try to free your mind from extreme emotions. Focusing on your senses will help you clear your mind.
  • Focus your attention on your abdomen, slightly below your navel.
  • Close your mouth and breathe in and out through your nose.
  • Inhale and feel your abdomen rise. Exhale and feel your abdomen fall.
  • With each inhalation and exhalation, ensure you are breathing slowly and deeply. Exhale for a little bit longer than you inhale.
  • Continue to breathe deeply for 10 minutes.
Deep breathing and meditation can heal your lungs

Complete 10-minutes of deep breathing at least once a day, but preferably three times per day.

Remedy #2: Lemon, ginger, and honey tea


You may have heard that one of the main symptoms of the Covid-19 is mucus coating the lungs.

The fact is that natural remedies that treat Covid-19 can address this harmful symptom.

You can make the recipe below to fight the mucus. Feel free scale the ingredients to make a large enough batch to last the entire day.

Indication: Trouble breathing; coughing with NO fever


  • 1/4 cup of peeled and sliced ginger
  • 3 slices of lemon
  • 2 Tbsp of honey
  • 2-4 cups water


  • Add the sliced ginger and water to a saucepan
  • Bring to a boil
  • Add the lemon slices and turn off the burner
  • When the mixtures has cooled down, add the honey and mix well
  • Drink throughout the day, making a fresh batch each day
  • You may increase the amounts to make a larger batch for more people

How the recipe works: The flavor will transform into Yang energy which eliminates cold-dampness. In this way, it heals the lungs from the respiratory symptoms of Covid-19.

Remedy #3: Pomelo and Orange Tea

Pomelo and orange tea remedy helps clear mucus and heal the lungs

Indication: Trouble breathing; coughing with NO fever


  • 1 pomelo peeled and separated into slices
  • 3 oranges peeled and separated into slices
  • 4-6 cups water (Add enough water to fill an inch above the slices)


  • Bring water to a boil
  • Add pomelo and orange slices
  • Boil for another three minutes

You can steam orange sections as a remedy for a cough, if you don’t have pomelos.

How the recipe works: Pomelos and oranges are both aromatic fruits. They are known for dispersing unhealthy energy (邪气 xie-qi) in the lungs.

If your lungs are clear, you are less likely to catch a communicable respiratory disease (i.e., COVID-19!). If you already have the virus, this tea will strengthen your lungs so you can breathe more easily.

Remedy #4: Pear and sugar tea

Pear and rock sugar are a great natural remedy for a cough

Indication: Dry cough or cough with phlegm (if you have yellow phlegm, please also use the Cabbage and Radish recipe below). This recipe is the one cough recipe that CAN be used when you have a fever.


  • 1-2 large Asian pears (or 3 small or medium Bosc, Bartlett, Danjou, other western pears)
  • 2-3 ¼” pieces of Rock Sugar (or 1 Tbsp unprocessed cane sugar)
  • 5-6 cups of water


  • Peel one large Asian pear
  • Slice into 1” chunks; keep the core
  • Place 3 cups of water into a saucepan
  • Place the pear chunks, core, and rock sugar into the pot of water
  • Bring to a boil
  • Simmer for 20 minutes
  • Fill mug with one cup of liquid and 1/3 of the pear chunks
  • Drink and eat when still warm
  • Cover with lid and keep on stove top
  • Reheat and drink/eat two more times during the day

How the recipe works: The pears and rock sugar break down the mucus and clear unhealthy energy (邪气 xie-qi) in the lungs.


Remedy #5: Fever buster – Cabbage and daikon radish tea

Napa or Chinese cabbage and daikon radish tea remedy can cure a cough and yellow mucus.

You have most likely suffered from a high fever some time in your life. A high fever is truly scary.

I swear by this recipe to break a fever. As you read at the beginning, drinking this remedy cleared my sister’s Covid-19 fever in a day!

This recipe saved me two years ago China when I suffered from the Australian flu epidemic there. My fever spiked to 104 degrees the second day of symptoms.

I ordered daikon radish and Chinese cabbage (Napa cabbage) online and dragged myself out of bed to prepare the mixture. By the next morning, my fever had dropped to 101 degrees and was gone the next day.

This remedy also stopped my husband’s fever in 24 hours when he caught a horrible flu in Mexico last year.

The people we were with, who took medication, had fevers and other symptoms for much longer.

Indication: Fever; yellow phlegm when coughing or blowing your nose


  • 1 cup sliced Napa (Chinese) Cabbage (May substitute regular green or purple cabbage)
  • ¾ cup ¼’ cubes of peeled and sliced Daikon radish (May substitute small red radishes)
  • 4-6 cups water


  • Peel enough Daikon radish to yield ¾ cup when cut into cubes
  • Slice one cup of Napa Cabbage
  • Place 4 cups of water in saucepan along with radish and cabbage
  • Bring to a boil
  • Simmer for 20 minutes
  • Fill mug with one cup of liquid and 1/3 of cabbage and radish
  • Drink and eat when still warm
  • Cover with lid and keep on stove top
  • Reheat and drink/eat two more times during the day

How the recipe works: The cabbage and radish are cooling by nature and allow the body to release heat that builds up from a fever.


Remedy #6: Music therapy

Our expression in the west that “music has charms to soothe the savage beast” is actually a medical concept in Chinese medicine.

Music has long been used to cure the body and mind in China, and we can take advantage of this knowledge to keep ourselves strong and healthy.

Music Therapy Using Pentatone

Pentatone means a gapped scale with five notes; usually the fourth and seventh notes of the diatonic scale are omitted.

How the pentatone ancient Chinese music therapy works: The pentatonic property of certain songs can supplement the Fire element and protect the Wood element (learn more about the elements here).

Listening to this song can boost the dispirited Liver Energy (肝气 gan qi). Once your internal energy balance is restored, the Healthy Energy (正气 zheng qi) is activated.

What does this mean? The body’s self-healing process, triggered by the song, can effectively heal your body you from respiratory diseases, like COVID-19.
