Chinese medicine holds that summer drags people down, especially people who are qi deficient. Your goal during the autumn is to reclaim and rebuild your qi.

To being with, eat a bit increase amounts of lean meat, milk, eggs, pumpkin, grapes, gingko, coconut, lotus seeds, Chinese dates (jujubes), black fish, chicken, clams, and a bit more spicy sauces.

You should avoid pomelo, oranges, celery, leeks, and too much roughage in the autumn.

A great dish for you is Congee with Cherries. This dish will replenish your qi. It is not advised if you have a cold or fever. The dish would strengthen the pathogen!


Congee with Cherries

Ingredients

  • 50 grams snow fungus (tremella mushrooms)
  • 30 grams cherries
  • 100 grams rice
  • 1 small piece of rock sugar
  • Osmanthus flowers or sauce to taste.


Method

Soak the mushrooms Wash the rice. Soak the mushrooms for at least one hour, or until soft. Boil the rice and mushrooms together with one small chunk of rock sugar, then simmer for 50 minutes over low heat. Add cherries and Osmanthus flowers or sauce. Serve hot.
