Stressful life activities create a flood of adrenaline within the body. Adrenaline spreads throughout the body and activates not only the body’s sympathetic nervous system, but also the adrenal glands. The heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and blood flow to the muscles are all increased as they respond to the “fight or flight syndrome.”
When this happens, the immune system is called upon to balance the whole stress mechanism and is, therefore, called away from its normal activities which include monitoring cellular activity and fighting the growth of disease. As a result, life of constant stress increases susceptibility to illness.
