Kundalini Yoga is a form of yoga that emphasizes the awakening of the energy believed to reside at the base of the spine. The practice is rooted in ancient Hindu and Tantric traditions.

  1. Kundalini Energy: According to Kundalini Yoga philosophy, there is a coiled serpent-like energy, called Kundalini, located at the base of the spine. The goal of the practice is to awaken and raise this energy through the spine, activating each of the seven chakras along the way.
  2. Asanas (Postures): Kundalini Yoga incorporates a combination of physical postures, dynamic movements, and breath control techniques (pranayama). The postures may be held for varying durations, aiming to release energy and stimulate the flow of Kundalini.
  3. Breathing Techniques (Pranayama): Breathwork is a central component of Kundalini Yoga. Specific breathing exercises, known as pranayama, are used to channel and control the flow of energy within the body.
  4. Mantras: Chanting and the repetition of specific sounds or mantras are integral to Kundalini Yoga. The vibrations created by chanting have a purifying and transformative effect.
  5. Meditation: Meditative practices may involve focusing on the breath, visualizations, or using specific mantra meditations to quiet the mind and enhance spiritual awareness.
  6. Mudras: Hand gestures, or mudras, are often incorporated into Kundalini Yoga practice. These gestures impact on the flow of energy in the body.
