Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade Qigong
Eight Pieces of Brocade Baduanjin
Baduanjin, or Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade Qigong. This qigong sequence is an 800 year-old qigong flow that moves and stretches all of the organs, muscles, joints, glands, and lymph nodes in your body.
This Yang Energy Version is more physically rigorous and helps yang energy rise up and circulate throughout the body. It is best done in the morning. The focus is also on aligning breath with movement, to calm the mind.
These exercises help prevent and cure many kinds of illness. They also: help develop your muscles, increase physical strength, improve joint movement and flexibility, strengthen the tendons and bones, and help regulate digestion and the nervous system. In addition to the internal benefits, the postures that make up the 8 movements give you tone, lean muscles. They also enhance movement in the lymphatic system, and boost your lung capacity.
P.S. Brocade was the name for high-grade silk cloth in ancient China, a rare and expensive item. Calling these exercises the 8 Pieces of Brocade means that the movements are a treasure! This flow moves every muscle, joint, lymph node, and organ in your body. It opens up meridians so qi can flow throughout your body, helping it rejuvenate, strengthen, and heal.
